All customers who lost power in Thursday's (Dec 5) storm have their service restored

All Northern Powergrid customers who lost power in Thursday's (December 5) terrible storm and coastal flooding have had their service restored.
Engineers worked tirelessly over the last few days, including through the night, to repair the damage caused by the gale force winds and the tidal surge along coastal areas and on tidal rivers.
A number of substations were flooded as tidal waters rose to the highest level for many years, while storm force winds measured up to 80 mph, damaging overhead power lines.
The company's major incident plan remained in place throughout the restoration operation, with Northern Powergrid receiving support from other electricity network operators who sent teams to work directly with our engineers.
In total, 135,000 properties in the North East, Yorkshire and north Lincolnshire had their power disrupted by the bad weather.
Northern Powergrid is extremely grateful to all customers who lost their electricity supplies for their patience while the repair work was carried out.
