Northern Powergrid

Christmas Hamper 2017Northern Powergrid, the region's electricity distribution network operator, has donated 40 hampers to hospices across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, giving them a helping hand to increase their fundraising potential.

The hampers, which Northern Powergrid donates annually, are worth £100 and contain sweets, treats and traditional festive goodies.

Northern Powergrid’s Head of Stakeholder Relations, Siobhan Barton, said: “At this time of year it's great to be able to give something back to our local communities. The hospices that operate across our area provide vital care in some of the most difficult of circumstances.

“Many of the hospices successfully use the donated hampers as part of their festive fundraising raffles which often attract vital support from local communities.  Some of the hospices have raised anything between £300 and £1,000 which is a great outcome from our initial donation."

One of the hampers was donated to St. Benedict's Hospice & Centre for Specialist Palliative Care, a hospice close to the hearts of Northern Powergrid staff after an ex-employee received care at the hospice.

Catrina Flynn, Head of Fundraising Operations for the hospice, said: "The gift of the hamper is a wonderful way of helping us to raise extra funds for the hospice. All of the money raised is used wisely and carefully to support the wide range of services at the hospice that benefit patients and their families.”
