We have a new name
Published: 01 November 2011
On 1 November 2011, CE Electric UK renamed to Northern Powergrid. Our aim in renaming was to establish a stronger company identity for the benefit of all stakeholders, including staff and customers.
Renaming our company has given our business a more appropriate, recognisable and understandable identity. Our previous identities of CE Electric UK, NEDL and YEDL were unclear for customers, employees and other stakeholders. The new name clearly describes the part of the country in which we operate and the nature of the services that we provide.
The formal name of the holding company is now Northern Powergrid Holdings Company (this has replaced CE Electric UK Funding Company). The two regulated licensee companies are now Northern Powergrid (Northeast) Limited and Northern Powergrid (Yorkshire) plc but these names will only be used in a limited number of situations where legal compliance requires it. There is no change to the legal entity that is the licensee other than the change of name: the registered number and registered office of each licensee remain unchanged. We have no plans to rename our standalone unregulated businesses (CE Gas or IUS) – they will stay as they are but will be part of a group that has changed its name.
