Check before you dig

If you hit an electricity cable while digging, not only will you endanger your own life, but you will also probably damage the cable. Damage to an electricity cable can cause a power interruption at the time or at some point in the future.

In the interests of your own safety, if you are planning to carry out any excavation works or development, then you need to contact all the relevant utility companies to ascertain what pipes, cables, wires, lines and other apparatus exist close to where the work is to take place. For information about the location of our electricity cables and for copies of electricity Safedig Maps,

Call 0870 1600 910 Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:45pm.

Alternatively, please fax details of your request to 0191 229 4287

An on-demand map ‘view and print’ service is available for those who regularly require Safedig maps. Click here to read more and register. If you have a smaller number of requests per year please use our direct service via the contact details above.
