Changes to connection charges and network access

Customers applying for Generation Connections will still be required to contribute towards the costs of reinforcement work but only at the same voltage as their connection, unless:

• their project triggers threshold of £200/kW;
• is deemed to be a Speculative Development; 
• is subject to other certain exceptions. 

Energy storage projects will be treated as generation for connection charging purposes. The changes will apply to all applications received on or after the 1 April 2023. For more information see our FAQs.

The Access SCR will have very little impact on connections for domestic customers or anyone seeking a single, small-scale connection. Where these works do trigger reinforcement, customers can expect to see a reduction in the overall connection costs they will pay. 

In certain situations, where we cannot provide the connection capacity requested without reinforcing our network, the Access SCR means that we may be able to get customers connected more quickly by offering them a Curtailable Connection, which means we may restrict the need operations at certain times. On completion of the reinforcement works, the customer will be able to access the full capacity they requested, without their operations being curtailed. For more information see our FAQs.
