Fast-track application process for small scale generation and storage (G99)

Northern Powergrid now offer a fast-track application process for connecting small scale generation and electricity storage devices that meet certain criteria.
The installation notification form for Small Generation Installation Procedure 1 can be used to notify us that the Generating Units have been installed and commissioned where the eligibility conditions are met.
- All of the generation and/or storage equipment is located in a single installation.
- All existing and new generation and/or storage equipment is type tested to G83, G59, G98, and G99.
- The basic design capacity of each piece of equipment is 32A or less.
- Any equipment that has a basic design capacity greater than 16A is making use of the manufacturer’s facility to limit its output to 16A.
- The sum of all the ratings of all the equipment is no more than 16A per phase.
For small Generation Installation purposes the rating can be less than the basic design capacity if the manufacturer has limited the output to the lower rating. This is not allowable for connections under G98.
Note that the difference between the G98 process and G99 SGI-1 process is that in the G99 SGI-1 process the rating can be limited by the manufacture to less than the basic design capacity, which is not permitted in the G98 process
For Small Generation Installation Procedures 2, this simplified application form can be used where the eligibility conditions are met.
- All of the generation and/or storage equipment is located in a single installation.
- All existing and new generation and/or storage equipment is type tested to G83, G59, G98, and G99.
- The basic design capacity of each piece of equipment is 32A or less.
- The sum of all the ratings of all the equipment is no more than 32A per phase.
- A G100 export limitation scheme limits the export to the distribution network to be no more than 16A.
The installer will then have up to 3 months to install and commission the generation. Once this has been done Form A3-2 must be sent to the DNO within 28 days of commissioning.
For small Generation Installation purposes the rating can be less than the basic design capacity if the manufacturer has limited the output to the lower rating. This is not allowable for connections under G98.
For Small Generation Installation Procedures 3, this simplified application form can be used where the eligibility conditions are met.
- All of the generation and/or storage equipment is located in a single installation.
- All existing and new generation and/or storage equipment is type tested to G83, G59, G98, and G99.
- The basic design capacity of each piece of equipment is 32A or less.
- The sum of all the ratings of all the equipment is no more than 60A per phase.
- A G100 export limitation scheme limits the export to the distribution network to be no more than 32A.
Provided the network study meets requirements the installer may proceed. If the study does not meet the requirements then the installer will be made aware the application will be processed as a G99 enquiry.
For SGI-3 a network study is required to be carried out, to ensure the earth loop impedance at the premises is within the allowable limit for the installation to proceed. If the earth loop impedance is above the allowable limit the installer will be notified that the application is to follow the normal G99 application timeline.
