If you need to make changes to an existing electricity supply, we can help.

Whatever you need to connect, we can provide you with a new electricity supply.

An unmetered supply is connected to the network without a meter. This can include street lighting, traffic signals, pedestrian crossings. If you represent a local authority or highways agency lighting department, a public lighting contracting organisation or an electrical street furniture provider, then our information will help you with your connection of an unmetered electricity supply.

Electric vehicle and heat pump connection forms and processes share the same documentation. The Combined Installation Process flowchart illustrating the connection process must be followed when installing an electric vehicle charger or heat pump at an existing premises.
For residential premises with a direct service and a Maximum Demand (MD) upto 60A - the installer must notify us following installation using the connect and notify form and Northern Powergrid will confirm whether the new equipment can be connected.
For residential premises with a new Maximum Demand (MD) between 60A and 100A inclusive – the installer must apply for a connection prior to installation by filling in the application form and Northern Powergrid will confirm whether the new equipment can be connected.
For commercial properties, you should follow the Combined Installation Process

If you want to connect generation or storage, at a domestic or commercial level, we want to help. The most common sources of generation are wind turbines, solar panels (otherwise known as Photovoltaic or PV) and combined heat and power plants (CHP).

Providing information and data specifically for Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs).

If you represent a local authority or highways agency department, a private developer, or landowner and their agents, and you would like us to move, remove or disconnect one of our existing services, distribution network cables, overhead lines or substation buildings, we can help.

We've published our final 2023/24 ICE submission. ICE drives distribution network operators to provide a consistently high level of service to major connections customers.

DG Connection Guides
There are four separate DG Connection Guides, each with a corresponding ‘Summary’ guide. The purpose of the summary guides is to act as a quick check, providing only the most useful information in a condensed format. Each full guide has a flowchart that guides you to the most relevant Connection Guide for the Distributed Generation you are planning to install.

Our key connection services are subject to The Connection Guaranteed Standards of Performance. These set out the level of service you can expect and, where we are unable to achieve these standards, the compensation that you are entitled to.

You can compare our prices and service levels with other companies, called Independent Connections Providers, who provide connections services, and decide who is best for you.

Quotation accuracy scheme
The Quotation Accuracy Scheme only applies to Single LV Service Demand Connections and Small Project Demand Connections. The scheme allows customers to review the accuracy of a quotation provided.
