Thinking about Electric Vehicles?

We are working hard to support the electrification of transport in our region and deliver the benefits for the customers and communities we serve.

One of the most important jobs we do is connecting people and businesses to the electricity network. Whether you are looking to install EV chargepoints at home, at your place of work or are involved in large-scale charging  infrastructure roll-out, we can help you to get connected.

Charging at home

If you are thinking about installing an EV charging point at home, we recommend you appoint a reputable installer. They will conduct an assessment of your current power supply and notify us about your intention to install a new EV chargepoint at your premises. In a small number of cases we may need to undertake some work to accommodate your new chargepoint. Your installer will identify this during their initial assessment, talk to you about what is involved and then make an application to increase the size of your electricity supply.

Destination and commercial charging

Business, retailers and employers could all benefit from having EV charging points available at their sites. Whether it is for EV owners who want to charge while doing the weekly shop or employees who want to charge whilst at work, destination charging is becoming increasingly common. If you are thinking about retrofitting, you'll need to appoint a reputable installer who will assess your existing electrical demand and calculate how much power the chargers require. If it is more than your existing electricity supply can accommodate, your installer can make an application to increase the size of your electricity supply.

Charging hubs

Charging hubs can be located on petrol forecourts and at motorway service areas. The power supplies at existing petrol stations were typically not designed to accommodate the demand that electric vehicle charging stations will need and so if you are thinking about this type of project, we recommend you talk to our design team at an early stage in the process and before making an application, so that we can help you identify the best solution.

On-street charging

Charging points can be added to existing unmetered supplies, like street lights and telecoms cabinets, this is a solution being adopted by many Local Authorities but it's also possible to install ‘pop-up’ on-street columns owned by third party charging companies. If you're thinking about installing on-street charging you should read our EV charging guide and talk to our team early in the planning process, we're happy to work with you to identify the right charging solution.

Fleet charging

When thinking about electrifying your fleet, you should first consider the size of your fleet, the type of vehicles you operate and the pattern of use. The size of your fleet will dictate the number of EV chargepoints you need to install at your premises. We recommend appointing a reputable contractor to advise you and that you talk to our team early in the planning process.

AutoDesign

AutoDesign uses a simple green, amber, red indicator to help you locate the most viable and cost-effective location to connect EV chargepoints to our low voltage network and can provide you with a free of charge estimate for the connection in just minutes.
