Strong partnerships

We see partnership as the key to helping us deliver our commitment to being a force for good in the communities we serve.

By working with local partners who have established and local links we can ensure that the support we provide gets to the people and communities that need it most.

We're always interested to hear from community groups and charities. Click here to email us.

Powergrid Energy Saving App

We teamed up with the Energy Saving Trust to create our Powergrid Energy Saving App which is packed with advice, guidance and top tips to help you be energy efficient in every room in your house. It is free to download and provides independent advice so you can make informed decisions for your household. To download the app from the Apple Store  click here or from the Google Store click here.

Help with money worries

We're committed to playing our part in helping customers and communities to reduce and prevent the effects of fuel poverty.

We've partnered with MoneyHelper to support any customers who may have money worries. Through the partnership our customers can access free advice backed by The Money Advice Service. The advisers behind the network offer independent and impartial money and debt advice over the phone or online. Customers can choose from an immediate call back, scheduled call back or a digital debt advice referral.

Access free services and connect with a qualified and regulated money advisor

Money Navigator Tool

Through our partnership with MoneyHelper, customers can access The Money Advisor Network's Money Navigator Tool -a simple online tool that helps you find guidance if your finances have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

By answering a series of questions (in under 30 seconds) it helps show customers what financial matters they should consider for their circumstances. It provides tailored guidance and, where appropriate, directs customers to specialist third party advice that can help with their problems.

Community Partnering Fund

Our Community Partnering Fund, run with Leeds Community Foundation, is helping community organisations across our operating area access grants of up to £20,000.

Through the fund we help eligible not-for-profit organisations which help tackle fuel poverty, promote energy efficiency and resilience or promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) related subjects.

Citizens Advice

As part of our partnership with Citizens Advice we fund specialist energy advisors who provide customers with support when it comes to changing their supplier, checking tariffs, solving billing issues and progressing concerns with their chosen energy supplier.

Northern Powergrid has funded 'Powergrid Care Advisors' who help thousands of customers get advice and support that can help them save £100s a year for their household. To contact a Citizens Advice 'Powergrid Care Advisor' or find out more about free energy advice clinics call 0800 448 0721 (North East and Leeds), 0800 144 8848 (Hull and East Riding) and 0808 278 7820 (Sheffield).

NEA - Action for Warmer Homes

Northern Powergrid works with National Energy Action (NEA), the national charity working to end fuel poverty in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and is a Business Supporters Group Member.

National Energy Action offers a range of advice and support, which customers can access if they may be worried or looking for solutions to help them keep their homes warm and pay their energy bills.

Green Doctor

We work in partnership with Green Doctor - a community organisation that works across the North of England, helping vulnerable people to heat and power their homes at an affordable cost.

Our support helps the organisation provide fuel poverty and energy awareness training, as well as community outreach events and one-to-one home energy visits.

Energy Heroes

We fund a programme aimed at helping children understand where energy comes from, how it is used and how to save it to become Energy Heroes.

The programme uses a series of curriculum based lessons and an energy audit to engage pupils. Each lesson is centred on the development of pupils' data handling and problems solving skills.

Any schools interested in finding out more about how they can make their pupils Energy Heroes should email us.

Ahead Partnership

We work with Ahead Partnership, which connects businesses with local communities, to help us widen our positive social impact in the communities we serve.

As part of our partnership, we have delivered employability sessions in local schools to help pupils better prepare for the world of work. We have also engaged groups of young people in creating their own events - from concept to delivery - around the theme of promoting our Priority Services Membership and providing a local event for older people in their community.

Teach First

We're working with Teach First - a charity that develops and supports teachers and leaders who are determined to make a difference where it's needed the most.

Teach First works to help people develop into inspiring teachers supporting them every step of the way as they discover their potential. This includes supporting the recruitment of teachers in vulnerable communities.

As part of our £30m investment in Bradford's power network, we committed to giving something back to the local community. This includes the funding to train six primary school teachers.

Volunteering

Every year colleagues from across our business spend time volunteering in the communities we serve. This can include everything from supporting local community projects and planting trees to delivering safety and careers talks in local schools and colleges to help inspire future generations to join the energy sector.

During the first pandemic lockdown colleagues, including more than 70 of Northern Powergrid's first year apprentices, who were not yet qualified to work on our network, dedicated some 1,200 hours helping local charities that support vulnerable customers.

WISE

We've partnered with WISE as part of our commitment to encourage greater participation, contribution and success of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

As a core member we support WISE's drive to encourage a greater talent pool of women from the classroom to senior management. Through the partnership, we can explore and work with WISE on a range of projects and initiatives aimed at inspiring more girls and young women to consider progressing STEM subjects and pursuing a career in the engineering sector.
